Tiffany Travel Log

Over at Tiffany & Co, this month's window and vitrine install is just completed and if you can't get away, here's an opportunity to do some "fantasy travelling".

Vintage postcards, cameras and globes set the mood for a summer of adventure and a tour around the world. And while your there, check out the souvenir type product they are featuring to made your trip complete!!

Good props buoy sales!

Anchors away - it's holiday!

This is an excellent use of vertical space - These chunky garland ropes artfully tied with wooden buoys help create an impactful backdrop for these large and tall windows.

Bringing a seasonal and nautical feel to this store environment should bring customers to their shores.

Skulls are Us

or so it seems!
Skulls have already been a design motif for a number of years now but with Halloween upon us, they have been out in full force as a decorative object.
At Marc Jacobs they filled a window as if the crypt had been emptied and at Black Fleece they appeared with masks (a little Mardi Gras meets Halloween but...) painted silver to add a little sparkle. Where else have you seen them?

Flotsam and Jetsam

Schools of fish, drifts of wood, signs of the sea - here are two windows using the ocean for inspiration. One looks like brightly painted drift wood swirling about focusing your eye toward the center and the other - swimming fish complete with bubbles. Aye Aye Matey!

Milan - That's vial!

Here's a simple one with this summer's HOT/ Hot color (hot pink)
Seen at Tom Ford in Milan, this window was direct and effective. A wall of pink, glass vials were artfully hung behind a small grouping of shoes with the cologne acting as the branded sign and a pair of glasses lending an air of cool.
It's the one prop repeated in multiples idea that we see time and again as a solid window enhancement.
(it's good to be back & tune in for more from Italy!)

Singular Focus

Sometimes it works to take one item and repeat it or use it in multiples. We see this technique employed often and here are 3 examples with varying results.
The multiple layered leaves and birds convey spring and were spotted in Shanghai. Though I like the large scale of the props and the whimsical shapes, I don't think the total window is a visually appealing - perhaps due to the choice of colors.
The umbrella's catching crystals (or "rain") was dramatic due to the tall ceiling and multiple layers and helped elevate the somewhat plain dresses shown here at Tadashi in Las Vegas. Perhaps April showers do bring may flowers.
The beach inspired driftwood "fence" seen below was also hung over the cash wrap and together proved interesting. The outfit might have reflected something a bit more 'seaworthy' but overall it directed your attention to the summer clothing.

What's your thoughts? Single Props in multiples - hot or not?

Framing 34th Street

Not quite as dramatic as their Christmas display but here's a little something from Herald Square. Loads of blue wooden frames in all the windows along 34th Street. Hung, propped and laid on the floor, the bounty of frames was eye catching but one can't help wonder...would a different color have been more dramatic? Does the blue represent something? We love frames and, like butterflies, they are popping up everywhere but want to hear from you...impactful?
