Levi's shines during Fashion Night Out

Fashion Night Out was Thursday September 8th and many in NYC (and around the country) were out to celebrate and support retailers. Levi's put on a good show in it's Meat Packing location.
We love these wooden skyscraper/ skyline buildings - because the scale is so great and the lighting was terrific.
Love the simple drama of this one - a good example of a the extra effort many of the retailers took.

Unlocking the door at Bergdorf's

Always inspiring, another compelling window from Bergdorf's. This one on the "simpler 57th St side of the store", showed doors and keys in a most interesting way.

The impact of the "domino" door display is terrific and the choice of clothing against the white backdrop is powerful.

We like the way this window takes a simple idea and with careful thought and execution makes an amazing and fun visual statement.

Knock, knock.

What's growing on 57th and 5th?

Floral vines were running through both Harry Winston and Van Cleef and Arpels recently on 57th Street.

Harry Winston went with a monochromatic 3D white paper vine and flat art nouveau cut outs.

At Van Cleef, floral vines were growing inside and out with custom cut flowers in pink plexi and birch like branches that flowed dramatically.

At both stores, the effect was impactful and brought a terrific dimension to the windows. Will this trend take root?

Light the way

Versace seen here at City Center in Las Vegas uses bright lights and plexi risers to successfully create a moody backdrop for it's store.

Small effort, Big impact

with a lovely mix of product and vintage props this window manages to create an aura of an eccentric writer's den and encourages one to stop and think about what lies within - like a good book you'll have to open the cover to find out.

Birds of a feather...

I came upon this surreal fantasy window recently and thought it looked like a funny dream. I like the wings and birds and black and white floor.

Ta DA!!

Bring on a little drama to help cool the heat in the city and lure customers in!

This elaborate ribbon dress was used as the backdrop for accessories in the window of Henri Bendel's. Viola!

Capture a Moment!

A store window is nothing more than a stage - so get dramatic!
Many brands do well to remember this and freeze frame small moments or create little worlds that grab pedestrian's attention.
Seen here in Milan - the all wood and mirrored box, the safari moment and the perforated metal chamber.
Because if you want to catch someones attention, you must have something to say. But once you do, don't hold back - people love a good show!

Singular Focus

Sometimes it works to take one item and repeat it or use it in multiples. We see this technique employed often and here are 3 examples with varying results.
The multiple layered leaves and birds convey spring and were spotted in Shanghai. Though I like the large scale of the props and the whimsical shapes, I don't think the total window is a visually appealing - perhaps due to the choice of colors.
The umbrella's catching crystals (or "rain") was dramatic due to the tall ceiling and multiple layers and helped elevate the somewhat plain dresses shown here at Tadashi in Las Vegas. Perhaps April showers do bring may flowers.
The beach inspired driftwood "fence" seen below was also hung over the cash wrap and together proved interesting. The outfit might have reflected something a bit more 'seaworthy' but overall it directed your attention to the summer clothing.

What's your thoughts? Single Props in multiples - hot or not?

Ah, the Magic of Spring

New season, new holidays, new flowers, new clothes. Spring is all in the details as is this window. From the bunnies hiding in the grass to the bounty of the spring blooms, the magic of the season is clear in this childish but whimsical window.

Window Drama - Large Scale!

It is great to see retailers go all out and really dress the windows. In this care, Polo Ralph Lauren spared no expense. From the grand cabana curtain to the baskets filled with seashells and the urn filled with paper parasols, this window says casual elegance all the way to the scooter - there is plenty to dazzle and enough to remind you, they are selling clothes AND a delicious lifestyle. Where do we sign up?
