Attack of the Little People...again

We've been seen this visual trend all over the city! The use of the articulated manniken to highlight products.
To introduce her new fragrance Diane, at Bloomingdales, Diane Von Furstenberg will be hosting an event and used them to help announce it.

We find these little mannikens charming and when used well, enhance a window in a simple way. Here they are awaiting an autograph. Stop by and see them for yourself!

Mystery Window in Manhattan

Mystery Window

Saw this on another blog but love this quirky story of a man who did his windows just to see who would respond!

Colorful drama in Black and White @ Kate Spade

We are loving Kate Spade's year of color for it's cohesive message carried from product through store display and beyond.
July marked their black and white month and the stores really shown in high drama. From the sculpted wigs to the high gloss black props, the stores were a cool welcome in the hot summer.
Black & white is on trend for fall and Kate Spade certainly got it right with their entire window and in-store presentation!

Attack of the Little Wooden People

We have noticed little mannikens popping up everywhere this year! Seen moonlighting at Hermes, working promotions at EuroShop or dancing at H&M, we've spotted these little people being used in a variety of creative ways.
Where have you spotted them?

Manikins take over Hermes

Hermes' current windows showcase their heritage craftsmanship and it seems the small manikins are doing all the work!

Wearing little aprons made of leather and canvas, these small articulated wooden people are lending a hand to make saddles, leather goods and scarves.

Fantasy windows are great, especially after the holidays when we see so much emphasis on SALES - this is a much needed treat.

Party at Kate Spade

Apparently they're in the mood for a party at Kate Spade as the recent window install has a festive, carnival, pre holiday, Halloween vibe and all that glitters and shines is being used to promote their new jeans line.
I'm not 100% sure of the connection but it looks fun and spirited and if they want to kick off the season with a dash of whimsy - who are we to say no?

So pass the dip and let's get this party started!

Paper flowers for Spring

A 3D element is always a welcome addition to windows and helps bring marketing to life. This window is highlighting some new products that one would assume smell like flowers and these paper representations really tie up the whole idea nicely.
A little effort goes a long way!

Winter Wonderland

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas...and apparently so are a few retailers.
We love the snow! and with a few bright touches, like the red cardinal or colorful product, these windows really pop.
Check out the snow made of shredded paper, dixie cups, crumpled plastic and tissue at Anthropologie. It looks like a snow fort you would have made as a kid - which is why it works. When windows create fantasy and memories, you know you have done your job. The white Snow owl on the "fake" tree stump is also terrific and within the 'wall of snow', made out of crumpled white paper, there are other snowy creatures which is fun.
Hope you are enjoying the holiday show so far - get out there and support your local retailers this weekend. Who wouldn't love to finish their shopping early? (then you'd have more time to admire the windows!)
Happy Thanksgiving.

Mad for plaid!

This blue plaid 'wallpaper' backdrop along with some carefully chosen props adds a funky twist to this fall window.

Lights, Camera and action are all here with some vintage props in a supporting role - helping the clothing get ready for it's close up.
Complete with tree stumps as risers -this window is a winner for tartan lovers and those that like windows with a little edge.

Hand it over!!

it's "all hands on deck" at Coach as they launched their new secondary line called Poppy. The addition of these colorful hands, to help merchandise this new, youthful product line deserves a real "high five"and reminds us why...it's all in the details.

Small makes a BIG statement!

These caught my eye at the Uniqulo store on Broadway in Soho. Each window has a minature item or two of their clothing and all the windows are lined up in a row wrapped around the store. Viewing them is like being at a museum so the experience makes the clothes feel special and precious. The minatures draw you in, as you want a better look and then the small in contrast to the stores tall 20 foot ceiling is a great balance of scale.
