Body By Burberry Fragrance Launch

Burberry's new fragrance, Body launched last month with new campaign in print and windows.

Despite being executed simply with graphics, mirrors and perfume bottles of the new fragrance, the windows were quite dramatic. The glass bottles against the mirrors created a beautiful reflection and stopped us in our tracks.
Using a product as a prop, if done right, can both promote and be an effective visual element. In this case Burberry got both right!

For the love of Kraft at JCrew

How can such a basic paper be so elegant? See how in JCrew's most current store window. Kraft paper is woven with a bit of gold foil to create a grid-like backdrop. We've seen different versions of this concept in the past at Burberry with their lattice squares and at Club Monaco using kraft paper.
But this presentation just seems right to help highlight their fall collection - a simple idea executed so well!

Shine On!

Walking along 57th Street in NY, these windows really caught my attention. Silver squares, the Burberry symbol (a variation on their plaid), filled the windows and the reflective nature was incredibly eye catching.

Remember last Spring when they did a variation on this in red and white and black and white?

Which do you prefer?

Small gestures, Grand results...

It's not the size of the prop or the big idea that is always the winner. Sometimes, it's the simple thought or the well worn idea that works wonders.
Though frames as prop is not a new idea, it was used here effectively because these windows were so big, with glass floor to ceiling and the floor and walls in black. The gold frames added a depth and geographic element that focuses attention where it's needed, on the mannequins.

In contrast to the large black windows at Sisley, the Burberry window is very small and shallow. The addition of the graphic X printed on the white backdrop draws your attention where it should be, on the clothing.
Remember our goal in Visual Merchandising, to increase sales through the creative merchandising of product. We salute the efforts to do so - big and small!

Be Square!

The black and white square "lattice work" used here is an 'out of the box' twist on an iconic prop. Using lattice work (usually seen in green or white) as a backdrop to convey spring or summer is a classic window dressing. Refigured here into squares with one slat taken out and painted black turns the whole idea upside down, much like this tumbling display. It's graphic and bold and somehow manages to convey rain.
The red and white window is seen at Barney's but they are all highlighting Burberry's spring line. It's hip to be square!
