The Carnival of Animals Bergdorf's

Bergdorf's never disappoints with their windows, especially at holiday. This animal kingdom is complete with an array of carefully selected animal props across several regions. Each windows is unique in theme (from tropic to arctic), color scheme (from blue to gold) and materials (from paper to wood). Try and swing by before they change!

Unlocking the door at Bergdorf's

Always inspiring, another compelling window from Bergdorf's. This one on the "simpler 57th St side of the store", showed doors and keys in a most interesting way.

The impact of the "domino" door display is terrific and the choice of clothing against the white backdrop is powerful.

We like the way this window takes a simple idea and with careful thought and execution makes an amazing and fun visual statement.

Knock, knock.

Who's afraid at Bergdorf Goodman?

Phobias are the current rage in the 5th Avenue windows with paintings by Mark Gagnon and many brightly painted vintage inspired props. The phobias are whimsically depicted yet have a dark current running through out.

The 58th Street windows have a fire and ice theme complete with plexi cut flames, giant matchsticks and a refrigerator with leaking ice.

Both sets of windows are effective in capturing pedestrian's attention with a careful use of props and visual story telling.

Rombola causes a ruckus at Bergdorf's

Illustrator John Rombola was adding drama to the windows of Bergdorf Goodman's while promoting the launch of his new book, 'Ecclectic Eccentric' (aptly named).

The large scale drawings were used in various ways to highlight the 2010 Fall collection and are worth a trip to 5th Avenue to peek.

ah, the written word or music for that matter can be so visually poetic. Here's a page from a recent Bergdorf install that used printed scores and wrapped books to create an enchanting "notice me" window.

and all to the rhythm of the oversize metronome....tick, tock indeed.

Last Holiday Hurray!!

It's been a busy season so I decided to put up a last round of festive photos to show you what else you may have seen (or missed).

More glitter and sparkle at A/X - sometimes appearing silver, sometimes like a rainbow, strips of plexi added a bit of drama.

Love these mini sweater ornaments! (though a bit unclear of the message or tie in to store)

Oversize light bulb strands - seen here at Kate Spade but noted in many windows (see Banana Republic blog entry earlier in month)

More natural elements but this time done in gold as seen in this tall wrapped stick trees. Note the outside window boxes that add another layer to window.

A bit of whimsy - seen here at Paul Smith in these festive window vitrines but noted all over - did you get to Barney's or Bergdorf's? Love the white scroll window cling border.

Peek a Boo

LOVE simple ideas and this one is brilliant. A wall of paper, like a roll used for photo shoots covers the floor and back wall in white. Pulling the paper back, reveals bold stripes made of various colored tape.

Viola - simple magic!

Hair it is!

another great idea blending fashion, art and visual merchandising - and using hair pieces to do so! (look at the wall behind the mannequins, its covered in hair "falls" in various shades) - celebrating Extreme Beauty in Vogue - it's just a hair dramatic - no?

Outsider Art inside Bergdorf Goodman

To the delight of NYC pedestrians, Bergdorf Goodman's current store windows are featuring the works of 18 artists from the collection of the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore.

The AVAM is "the official national museum for visionary, self taught & intuitive art" - and what a wonderful fusion of art and fashion it is!

Model as Muse

The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute is currently hosting an exhibition -
The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion, exploring the link between the models and designers and the influences on fashion.

Bergdorf Goodman's windows are highlighting the show and these are just a couple - they are quite dramatic and elegant (who doesn't love a paper mache giraffe!) and I recommend going to see both the windows and the MET.

Like a Moth to a flame

Always drawn to beauty, found myself once again in front of Bergdorf Goodman's - looking at the most stunning digital prints of Moths from Joseph Scheer's new book. The complementary fashions exhibited along side this artwork made the windows truly magical. Another fine moment for art and fashion.

Glitter Glamour

Unfortunately my photographic work does not capture the simple drama of these windows but boy do they shimmer! In silver, white and black these elegant backdrops cause one to give pause and reflect on the clothing. Ah!
