Simple Statement in White

I like the way this all white prop looks equally as great in front of color as it does black and white. Adding a layer of shape and texture.
White paper flower and white ceramic vases. A simple spring moment seen here at Aerie.

Sail beats Sale!

It's so refreshing to see visual merchandising efforts increasing and this February we saw a lot more nods toward Spring activities than Sales. Here at Gant the nautical look inspired by sails, lines and life rings said bye (buy!) bye. Sail on!

Blushing Blooms...

Beautiful blossoms bloom bountiful breathing beams of beginnings.

Tree Glee

We love this happy tree cut out in wood and decorated with little wooden birds. It's whimsical and warm and offset by the pink painted background and floor covered in pink French dragees (jordan almonds). Mmmm signs of spring.

Paper flowers for Spring

A 3D element is always a welcome addition to windows and helps bring marketing to life. This window is highlighting some new products that one would assume smell like flowers and these paper representations really tie up the whole idea nicely.
A little effort goes a long way!

Garlands Galore!

ah, the signs of spring are emerging! Seen here are two different interpretations on a theme.
One is a glorious use of plastic...trash. Cut up plastic bottles and discarded refuse strung to make a colorful presentation that once again highlights Anthropologie's mastery of making "something out of nothing".
The other is a more feminine version seen at Aerie (in the new Time Square 3 story American Eagle store) which uses fabric flowers to create garlands in colors and styles that highlight their spring campaign. It's fun, flirty and retro and adds a great texture to the store.
Go see them both and keep an eye out for more signs of warm weather!

Singular Focus

Sometimes it works to take one item and repeat it or use it in multiples. We see this technique employed often and here are 3 examples with varying results.
The multiple layered leaves and birds convey spring and were spotted in Shanghai. Though I like the large scale of the props and the whimsical shapes, I don't think the total window is a visually appealing - perhaps due to the choice of colors.
The umbrella's catching crystals (or "rain") was dramatic due to the tall ceiling and multiple layers and helped elevate the somewhat plain dresses shown here at Tadashi in Las Vegas. Perhaps April showers do bring may flowers.
The beach inspired driftwood "fence" seen below was also hung over the cash wrap and together proved interesting. The outfit might have reflected something a bit more 'seaworthy' but overall it directed your attention to the summer clothing.

What's your thoughts? Single Props in multiples - hot or not?

Trendspotting: butterflies

I don't know about you, but I can't open a magazine, go into a store or turn on the TV without seeing butterflies. It seems these fluttering creatures are everywhere in home and fashion design and here they are seen as props in the window of a high-end children's store. A welcome sight in these somewhat dreary times, butterflies represent rebirth, renewal and awakening, so this positive symbol is refreshing. My heart is a flutter with signs of spring.

Spring is a bloom..

signs of spring are all around in NYC this past week. Though we all know March and April can be snowy, rainy and cold, the stores are looking to get something fresh into our wardrobes and enticing us with the promise of bike rides and flowering trees. A good window tells a story and this one says, warm weather and good times are ahead - get ready!

Flower Pot - hot or not?

we don't do negative often as we know how hard this job is and things don't often go as planned. But in this case, these paper flower pots were really cute, but the impact was not as powerful as it could have been. some grass in the pots, some color on the pedestals, some balloon flowers in the air - an additional element would have helped this great concept a lot. What do you think would have helped this garden grow?
